The Zischá¤gge, also known as the Pappenheimer helmet, Hungarian balaclava, or, because of its shape, the lobster-tail helmet, was a riding helmet used in Europe in the 17th century.
It consisted of a hemisphere-shaped helmet bell, cheek pieces with ear-holes, the characteristic neck shield, an eye or forehead shield and a nose plate. It was initially used by Hungarian hussars and Polish cavalrymen, but was also used in Central Europe by arquebus and dragoon riders from the 17th century onwards.
This replica of the Zischá¤gge is a variant called the three-bar pot , which has three rods welded at their ends into the visor. The lobster tail consists of three riveted plates. There is a practical, size-adjustable leather inlay on the helmet.
