This beautiful high medieval helmet is a fine reproduction of a transitional form of the pot helmet ( closed helmet in English), as worn by the Crusaders/Templars in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. were worn. This type of helmet is considered to be the precursor or early form of the large helmet, also known as the bucket helmet or barrel helmet (in English great helmet or big helmet or big helmet ).

Unlike its predecessor, which initially consisted only of a flat, cylindrical dome and a mask-like front plate (and thus left the sides and back of the head or neck area completely unprotected), this transitional model covered the entire head and thus provided better protection. However, with this intermediate form of the cross helmet, the elongated face protection still reached much deeper than the side walls and neck plate.
In the course of the 13th century, the crusader helmet was further developed and eventually developed into the "true" cylindrical bucket helmet, as we know it from numerous illustrations and finds from the Middle Ages. This large pot helmet completely enclosed the head, the same on all sides, and enjoyed great popularity throughout Central Europe (ca. 1200-1250, British Library, Royal MS 2 A XXII, f. 220). The helmet is made of 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and decorated with a brass cross and crown. The individual parts of the knight's helmet are connected to each other by steel rivets. Each of the viewing slots is about 8 cm long, 0.7 to 1.8 cm wide and the ten large vertical recesses in the lower half ensure the necessary air circulation.

This replica of a Templar helmet, worn by knights during the Crusades, is based on several historical sources, including a miniature from the Westminster Psalter.

The interior is blackened and fitted with a riveted and adjustable leather inlay. The 2mm thick brown leather chin strap is fitted with a brass buckle (with an antique finish).
