This beautiful helmet with a folding visor is a reproduction of a typical tournament helmet from the early 16th century, also known as a closed helmet (in English, closed helm or closed helmet ). Developed in the late 15th century, this helmet was worn by knights and servants in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It was a fully enveloping helmet that protected both the head and the neck. While it was also used on the battlefield, it enjoyed great popularity in jousting tournaments .
What makes this visored helmet different from the Schaller and Armet (from which it was developed) is a completely different opening and closing mechanism: here the integrated rotating chin bar (or chin bar ) opens vertically rather than sideways and is mounted on the same pivot pins as the two-part visor.
The reconstruction we offer here is made of 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and is therefore only conditionally suitable for exhibition combat. As with the preserved originals, the folding visor is a split construction consisting of two independent elements that are hinged on both sides at a single pivot point at temple level, so that the wearer can choose whether to slide up only the upper part or the entire face guard. The entire front half is attached to the same pivot points as the two-part visor and can be folded down to put on the helmet. When closed, it is secured by a hook on the side. The helmet bowl has a generous ridge, the viewing slots are about 6 cm long and 0.8 cm wide, and numerous round recesses ensure the necessary air circulation.
The blackened interior is provided with an adjustable leather inlay, and the adjustable 3mm thick black leather chin strap is fitted with a brass buckle (with an antique finish).
This beautiful, wearable knight's helmet is suitable for light display combat, reenactment, LARP, stage or TV/film and will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect. Of course, it is also an excellent addition to every helmet collector's treasure trove.
