The basin bell, also called kettle bell or Bascinet , was developed in the early 14th century from the so-called brain bell and spread throughout Central Europe until the 15th century.
The late medieval visored helmet we offer here is a replica of an original piece from the 14th century (approx. 1370), which can be admired today in the German Historical Museum ( DHM ) in Berlin.
It is made of 2 mm steel and has a riveted, folding face shield that is hinged at a single point at forehead height. This type of centrally hinged visor was particularly popular in Germany and Northern Italy in the 14th century. The visor is equipped with a viewing slit that is approximately 16 cm long and 1 cm wide, and the numerous round recesses on the right side ensure the necessary air circulation. So-called Vervelles (small, protruding rivets with holes) attached to the side and bottom edge of the helmet are used to attach a chain pillar (the source is not included in the scope of delivery).
The blackened interior is provided with an adjustable padded inlay made of cotton fabric, which is attached to the helmet rim with sturdy stitching. The 1mm thick brown leather chin strap is adjustable and has a brass buckle. The helmet also has another leather strap with a buckle to hold the visor in the folded-down position.
This beautiful and wearable knight's helmet will make your transformation into a proud knight perfect. Of course, it is also an excellent decorative addition to every helmet collector's treasure trove.
