Possibly a replacement for the helmets worn under their helmets, the bascinet is one of the most typical forms of protection for cavalry and infantry between approximately 1300 and 1420. This can be seen from its widespread use in art, where we can see entire troops wearing this type of protection.
The pointed and curved shape of this type of helmet is intended to deflect blows to avoid causing pain to the wearer's neck. Some, like this one, were combined with the almófar instead of being used with the ventalle attached.
