The bascinet is presented to us through period art as one of the most commonly used options throughout the 14th century and even in the 15th. Possibly an evolution from the helmet that was worn under helmets, the bascinet is used by both cavalry and infantry equally and has many variants and forms. Some, such as the case in question, are still used with a bonnet under it and not with a vent attached to the edge.
The design of this model is based on various artistic representations dating from the first quarter of the 14th century and seem to represent a fairly common shape on the peninsula. The pyramidal grid system provides excellent protection with unbeatable visibility due to its angle.
The visor is foldable and uses a pin system that allows it to be removed immediately if necessary.
