Denix Sharps Carbine
Impressive replica of a Sharps military carbine, USA 1859. It is made of wood and metal, made in Spain and measures 101 cm.
The Sharps carbine, based on the design of Christian Sharps in 1848, was a bolt-action rifle which, in addition to being able to use a standard percussion cap, had a rather unusual priming mechanism. It contained a column of percussion caps and placed one on the muzzle of the rifle each time the trigger was pulled and the hammer dropped, making it easier to fire.
The carbine version of the Sharps rifle was popular with both Union and Confederate cavalry, and unlike the musket, about 90,000 of the Model 1859 were made. Its lift-off bolt lent itself to conversions to the new metal cartridges developed in the late 1860s, and many carbines were used during the Indian Wars in the decades following the American Civil War (1861–1865).
It is manufactured in Spain by Denix with quality wood and metal.
