Hardened leather buckler

The buckler is a defensive weapon used from the 12th century and was in use until the 18th century. It is well known that civilians sought lighter weapons than those used in war and capable of withstanding attacks. A good example of this type of weapon due to its lightness and strength is the buckler made of hardened leather. There are many references that speak of bucklers made of cooked leather (Cuir bouilli).

This particular model has a 2 mm thick steel umbo at its centre bordered by a 9 mm piece of hardened leather and held in place by 4 rivets, thus creating a robust and extraordinary piece for both defence and attack.

The piece has a steel handle and is finished with rosewood with brass rivets, just as was done with knives of the time. A common style among weapons of this type.

Specs:

- Material: Steel, leather and wood.
- Total diameter: 33 cm approx.
- Leather thickness: approx. 0.9 cm.
- Umbo diameter: approx. 13 cm.
- Thickness of umbo: approx. 0.2 cm.
- Grip width: approx. 11 cm.
- Weight: approx. 1.35 kg.

Note: Steel thickness may vary due to the handcrafting of our products. Carbon steel is not treated so it may rust, which is easily removable. You can protect this item from rust with synthetic or mineral oil.

This product is made of natural leather and wood. It may contain wounds, imperfections or not be 100% regular, but this is proof of its authenticity. The roughness or color may vary slightly and the finish cannot be guaranteed to be identical from one product to another. Dyeing is done by natural methods and the final finish may vary depending on the original tone of the leather. No claims will be accepted for any of the above cases.

At EspadasYMás we have the best training bucklers, medieval bucklers and much more.
