Manica were standard equipment for Roman gladiators. These armoured sleeves made of tough leather are documented in countless contemporary images. As, for example, in the second image, which shows a mosaic in Zliten (Libya) from the 2nd century AD.
The protection covered the entire arm, from the shoulder to the hand inclusive. This is where the Latin name Manica comes from , which translates as 'long sleeve'.
Our reconstruction is very robust and therefore ideal for the representation of a galdiator.
