Aventail is a chain mail that was secured in the Middle Ages as an additional neck and shoulder protection to a helmet. The preferred types of helmets here were the Nasalhelm, but especially in the late medieval period the bascinet and its variant, the Hundsgugel.
This Aventail has an authentic, serrated braided edge and a thick leather sewn strip, these strips must be hand-stitched by the customer, into the mounting holes for the helmet.
For attachment to helmets such as Hundsgugeln or pelvic hoods (Bascinet).
The BMSB chain mesh consists of round, non-riveted rings. The surface of the rings is blackened (burnished) and thus offers some protection against corrosion. We call this type of braid BMSB (B utted Mild Steel B Lackened).
The bristle chain is hand braided 4 in 1.
