African self-defense stick
The Zulus are one of the most militant ethnic groups in South Africa. In the early 19th century, the Zulu king Shaka conquered a large area between the Pongola and Umzimkhulu rivers and laid the foundations for the Zulu nation. At the Battle of Isandhlwana in 1879, the Zulus dealt one of the most embarrassing defeats in history to the British when, with little more than cowhide shields ( Isihlangus ) and their short spears ( Assegais ), they defeated a 1,200-strong (supported by artillery and cavalry) English column.
The Zulus are characterised by their preference for the so-called Knobkierrie (also simply called Kerrie ), which is used as a walking stick and truncheon. These hand-made sticks are made primarily from local hardwoods such as wild olive wood, buckthorn ( rose ivory ) or kudubush and are topped with a distinctive spherical knob.
Fine-tuned for the West African market the Cold Steel Walking Stick® has some of the best features of the traditional Zulu Kerries such as the corrugated shaft and classic geodesic knob. However, black polypropylene was used instead of the expensive exotic wood for its manufacture. Therefore, it is not only indestructible but also weather resistant. It will not rot, warp, tear, splinter, swell, shrink, mold or fade. Although primarily designed as a walking stick, it can also serve as a pointer, crowbar or baton and can even act as a self-defense instrument in an emergency.
Details:
- Material: polypropylene, black
- Total length: approx. 94 cm
- Weight: approx. 717 g
- Thickness: about 7cm (knob), 4.4cm (shaft fixing), 3.2cm (shaft tip)
