This Sallet combat helmet (also known as celata, salade or schaller) was very popular in Germany. A substitute for the Italian bascinet, it was very popular throughout Europe.
This helmet was highly prized by knights and men-at-arms for both mounted and foot combat. This type of helmet, the Salade or English Sallet, possibly originated in France or Burgundy. It was made with a long tail to protect the back of the head and neck.
A classic helmet for both a medieval warrior and a knight or lord. A must have for reenactment and combat activities. Form and function come together in this helmet making it an excellent helmet for any knight or warrior whether at a fair or fighting his enemies in a mock tournament at any combat reenactment event.
