The best-known medieval armour, made of steel or iron plates joined together with hooks, nuts, latches and nails and fastened to the warrior by straps and buckles, began to be used in Europe, both by infantry and equestrian, in the 14th century and reached perfection by the end of the 15th century, transforming itself in the mid-16th century into a gala garment for the warrior, adorned and embellished with the finesse of sculptural art and metal industries. It declined notably in the 17th century as firearms were perfected and since the 18th century it has only been used as an unrivalled ornament for castles, palaces, museums, and any place that wants to incorporate a beautiful historical memory into its rooms.
