The pepperbox, also called a pepper revolver or pepper pot (due to its resemblance to a pepper mill), is a short, multiple-barreled, repeating weapon, which has three or more barrels aligned around a central axis.

It is often seen as a multi-shot pistol. Pepperboxes exist in all firing systems: matchlock, wheellock, flintlock, percussion, Lefaucheux, rimfire cartridges and centerfire cartridges.

The pepper shaker was invented in the 1830s and was primarily intended for the civilian market. Its use spread rapidly and it was popular in the United States from 1830 until the Civil War.
