The Seax, or Sax, is a weapon that was carried by most peoples of Northern Europe. Carried and used by the Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Germanic tribes, its first use probably dates back to before the fall of Rome and continued into the early Middle Ages. The pattern of the Seax varied greatly from the small 7-10 cm long bladed knife to actual swords of 68-71 cm but always single-edged. The original version of this large knife was used both for field work, for cutting work, on board ship and for fighting if a sword or axe was not available.
This replica is made of carbon steel, has a wooden pommel and metal guard. The wooden hilt is decorated with brass studs for a very secure and comfortable grip. The blade is engraved on both sides, the base is flat, and can be sharpened. The remains of this Seax can be seen in the British Museum.
It comes equipped with a riveted and stitched leather sheath like the originals and has two openings for the strap.
