Sgian Dubh
Sgian dubh is the Scottish Gaelic name for a small dagger that is part of the traditional costume of the Scottish Highlands. According to Scottish tradition, the original Sgian Dubhs were worn under the shirt near the armpit. In later years, the Sgian Dubh was worn hidden in the stocking.
The name Sgian-Dubh comes from Scottish Gaelic. The main meaning of "Dubh" is "black". Figuratively speaking it means "hidden". "Sgian-Dubh" means "hidden knife". Hidden in the boot or sock, on the side of the hand most skilled at using it.
