Continental classification helmet: Type Weisenau - Niedermá¶rmter / Guttmann
Faithful reconstruction, AG 800 'from the famous former Axel Guttmann Collection, which was dissolved a few years ago and sold at auction. The river find is said to come from the Balkans, but the exact location is unknown.
After the figurative decorations, the helmet is also called "mouse and loaf of bread". While the typical loaf shape is known from finds from a bakery in Pompeii, the mouse or rat was a frequently found icon that occurred on lamps or knife handles.
The helmet corresponds to a similar find from the Lower Rhine town of Niedermörmter (Germany). Compared to the earlier 'Weisenau' models, the neck guard is now particularly expansive - a response to the opponents of the time and their weaponry. The missing original cheek pieces were reconstructed in extensive research.
