The mare rifle has its fame after the American series Dead or Alive (1958-1961) starring Steve McQueen who played the character Josh Randall, which is why it is also known as the Winchester Randall, or Randall Special. The original was made from a 44-40 caliber 1892 Winchester with the size to be able to be introduced in a long revolver holster.
