Saint Maurice is known as the leader of the Theban Legion and has been venerated as the patron of the Army, cutlers and armourers since the fourth century.
The sword, which is stored with some of his remains in Turin, is said to be the one with which St. Maurice was beheaded, although the sword was handcrafted in the 13th century, 1,000 years after this event.
