Katzbalger Renaissance Sword
The Katzbalger sword is a short, one-handed battle sword from the Renaissance. It was the weapon of choice for mercenary soldiers during the 15th and 16th centuries. It has a relatively short handle, broad blade and an S-shaped hand guard.
There are two possible linguistic origins for the name. Either it refers to the cat's fur which may have been used for the hilt or shealth. However, more likely, the origin is the word "katzbalgen", which is synonymous with fighting or tussling.
Katzbalger is often used by archers or spearmen as a last defense, when the opponent was too close to their long-range weapons.
The tip of the replica is rounded and the cutting edge is 2mm. This sword is suitable for reenactment and swordsmanship training. However we cannot guarantee that there will be no breakage.
The wooden handle, steel pommel and hand-made cross guard are of great strength. The blade has a total of three grooves.
