Roman spatha (Straubing-Nydam type), 3rd century
Possibly due to Germanic or barbarian shape, sword and battle technique evolved towards the end of the 2nd century AD. Blades became longer and swords were carried on the left side. The Straubing-Nydam type Roman spatha are narrow and long.
Our replica follows originals found in southern Germany dated around the 3rd century.
The blade is made of steel. The handle is made of bone and bronze. The scabbard is made of wood covered in leather and riveted with authentic brass ornaments.
