The John Lee Gunto Katana is a Japanese military sword that features a design inspired by 19th century French military sabres. Since 1934, it was decided to include a half-open Katana so that soldiers could carry a higher quality sword, as most industrially manufactured swords were of a very simple quality. The John Lee Gunto Katana features a Shinogi-Zukuri style blade. Beneath the ornate tsuba, there is a traditional locking button that can be used to draw the sword from its scabbard. The suit of this sword is brown, as is the cotton handle and lacquered scabbard.
