John Lee Aikuchi Tanto
The John Lee Aikuchi Tanto is a true masterpiece of Asian swordsmithing that represents the craftsmanship and tradition of ancient Japan at its finest. Handcrafted, the knife's blade is made from carbon steel and is hardened according to the traditional technique. This razor-sharp blade is further provided with a Bo-hi (channel) to reduce its weight. The knife's wooden handle is covered with real fish skin and wrapped with black cotton in the traditional manner. Additionally, there are two menuki on the handle that help to enhance the comfort when holding the knife while in use.
The scabbard (Saya) of this jewel is made of wood and the blade clamp (Habaki) is made of brass. This Tanto, completely made to museum templates, measures approximately 50 cm in total length, with a blade length of around 32 cm. The handle is about 17.5 cm long and the curvature of the blade (sori) is around 9 mm. Its weight without scabbard is approximately 0.5 kg and with the sheath it weighs about 0.75 kg.
It is important to note that the Aikuchi Tanto traditionally does not have a tsuba and this particularity gives a unique beauty and singularity to this knife. In addition, the shape of the Unokobi Zukuri blade, offered in the Naginata (Jap. Spear Sword) is present in this magnificent Tanto.
