If you are a lover of Asian swordcraft, this John Lee Golden Flower Functional Tanto Sword is a must-have piece for your collection. Crafted from hand-forged and traditionally hardened carbon steel, this sword has an exceptional beauty that makes it unique.
The blade of this sword is folded 12 times, creating around 8000 layers that give it precious Damascus properties. Thanks to this process, the blade is very strong and impressively sharp. But it is not just the blade that is impressive, also the handle (tsuka) is a work of art, made of wood and covered with real fish skin (same). The handle is designed to offer a secure grip, and is wrapped (tsuka-ito) in traditional black cotton. In addition, you can admire two decorative grip pads (Menuki) that will make you feel like a real samurai.
The handle (tsuka) is anchored to the blade with bamboo bolts (mekugi) so that the sword is secure and firm. The scabbard, on the other hand, is made of wood and is exquisitely crafted. The blade, on the other hand, has a brass collar (habaki) to prevent any rattling in the scabbard.
This sword was crafted from museum originals, which were unfortunately never signed by the 18th century Japanese craftsmen. However, this sword is a tribute to the wonderful skill these craftsmen have in handling metals and forging.
The Tsuba, on the other hand, is ornately designed, featuring golden cherry blossoms (Sakura), one of the most important symbols of Japanese culture, denoting beauty, emergence, and transience. Furthermore, the sword has an overall length of about 41 cm, with a blade length of about 27 cm. It also has a hilt length of about 14 cm and a curve in the blade (soros) of about 8 mm. Furthermore, it has a weight without scabbard of about 0.4 kg and a weight with scabbard of about 0.55 kg.
In short, if you are looking for a functional, high quality and beautiful Tanto sword, the John Lee Golden Flower Functional Tanto is the perfect choice for you. This sword will provide you with years of pleasure and satisfaction in its ownership and will also be the perfect place to admire the magnificent Japanese artistry.
