The Holy Roman Empire
Long, long ago, in the heart of Europe, there was a kingdom that rose from the ashes of the Carolingian Empire. After the famous Treaty of Verdun in 843 , the land was divided into three, and one of those parts became the Holy Roman Empire. This kingdom, born on the land that once belonged to Louis the German, was home to the new nation known as Germania.

The history of this empire truly began when the last Carolingian king, Louis IV the Child , closed his eyes to this world. At that time, the most powerful nobles of the kingdom took the reins and proclaimed a new monarch: Henry I of Saxony. After him, his son Otto I ascended the throne in 936. Otto was an exceptional leader, earning the nickname "The Great" for his great deeds and for shaping the future of the Holy Roman Empire. We cannot fail to mention the reign of Charles I of Spain, V of the Holy Roman Empire.

Throughout its existence, this empire saw the passing of several important dynasties : the Saxons, the Franks, the Swabians and, later, the Habsburgs, who ruled from 1273 to 1806.
Although Latin was the official language , a multitude of dialects could be heard in the streets due to the different nations that made up the empire.

But like all things in this world, the empire eventually came to an end . After nearly nine centuries of history, in 1806, Francis II of Habsburg stripped himself of the imperial crown, marking the sad end of the Holy Roman Empire.
