Steel armor legs

Plate armour had already been used in Roman times, but the knowledge and skill of making it was lost when Rome fell. For almost a millennium, Europeans turned to mail and sometimes armour made from small pieces of iron. Eventually, armour began to make a comeback to plate. The reintroduction of plate armour in addition to mail was incremental, with only the most vulnerable areas gaining additional protection at first. A prime example is this leg armour from the 14th C, which does not close at the back, unlike leg armour during the 15th C. The open shin, or front greave or shynbald, was the first type of plate armour to be used to augment mail armour. The back of the leg would still be protected with straps of mail at this time.
This leg armour is attached to the front greave with a galley protecting the thigh, a knee cop (also called a poleyn) and a semigreave. The front greave has a pin which is inserted through a hole in the half-greave to provide complete protection for the entire leg.
This mid to late 14th century leg armour is made from two separate, adjustable parts as the greaves can be adjusted in height depending on which hole you use when attaching the demi-greave, making the total height either 73cm or 75cm. The harness is attached behind the leg with three leather belts and at the top to your arming jack or arming belt with separate arming laces.
