This portable Viking spectacle helmet with spike protection and short nose is a reconstruction of a helmet that was found in a burial mound at Gjermundbu farm in Ringerike Municipality, Norway. The Viking helmet is 9/10 in age. It dates to the 16th century, but its general appearance and in particular the straps or clasps as well as the spectacles show its close relationship to the Norse crested helmets of the Vendel Age, which preceded the Viking Age.
This replica is hand-forged from 2 mm steel. The helmet's round bell, fasteners (a headband, a crown and a band running from ear to ear) and the face shield are connected to each other by steel rivets. The blackened interior is provided with an adjustable leather inlay attached to the helmet's bell with rivets, and the chin strap made of approximately 1 mm thick leather is fastened with a cord.
To protect the neck, the helmet has a short chainmail pit attached (because the remains of a pit can also be found in the original find). The 4-in-1 chainmail consists of 1.2 mm thick riveted round steel rings (braided type RRR - Riveted Round Rings ) with an inner diameter of approx. 8 mm. The source is attached directly to the lower edge of the bell.
An early medieval spangenhelm that will make your transformation into a proud Nordic warrior just perfect! Of course, this helmet is also an excellent decorative addition to every helmet collector's treasure trove.
