The Origin of Captain America's Shield
In the original Marvel comics, published in 1941, Steve Rogers receives his shield after being transformed into the super-soldier "Captain America" thanks to the super-soldier serum.
Initially, his shield was triangular, similar to a medieval emblem. Shortly after, the iconic circular design we all know was introduced.
According to canonical history, the shield was forged from a unique alloy of vibranium (extracted from Wakanda) and steel, accidentally created by scientist Dr. Myron MacLain. This material makes it virtually indestructible.
In the MCU, specifically in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), we see Howard Stark (Tony Stark's father) hand Steve Rogers the round vibranium shield, replacing a cruder metal one he used at first.

Broken Shield
- Appearance: Avengers: Endgame (2019).
- Cause of its deterioration: Thanos destroys the shield in combat, demonstrating that it is not entirely indestructible against extreme forces.
Sam Wilson's New Shield
- Appearance: The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021).
- Characteristics: After Steve Rogers' retirement, Sam Wilson assumes the mantle of Captain America and inherits a new version of the shield, practically identical to the previous one.

- In Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Tony Stark helps improve Steve Rogers' shield by adding a magnetic fastening system for his back.
