The story
Against the vast backdrop of the Hundred Years' War, where the nations of France and England clashed in a whirlwind of conflict and ambition, a figure emerges who captures the imagination and the heart of history: Joan of Arc , a young woman of humble origins destined to defy the forces of oppression and despair.
At the tender age of 17, at a time when darkness threatened to engulf her homeland, Joan rose with unwavering faith in her divine mission. Convinced that she had been chosen by the designs of the Almighty, she undertook an epic journey of more than 2,000 kilometers to the court of Charles VII , the monarch challenged by adversity, with the bold intention of liberating France from the relentless clutches of English occupation.
Joan's fate is intertwined with the fate of Orléans, a besieged city groaning under the yoke of war. With royal permission, this maiden of indomitable heart and fiery determination led an army destined to break the chains of oppression. The liberation of Orléans became a milestone that would resonate throughout the annals of history, a beacon of hope amidst the darkness that enveloped the nation.
Yet, as in many heroic tales, tragedy lurked in the shadows. A year after her victory, Joan fell into an ambush hatched by the shadows of treachery. Captured by the hands of the enemy, she was handed over as war treasure to the English. The young warrior, with her unwavering faith as her only weapon, faced a brutal trial for heresy, a trial that would be her condemnation and her legacy.
In the fateful year of 1431, at just 19 years old, Joan of Arc ascended to heaven in the glow of the pyre, her spirit engulfed in the flames of injustice and religious fervour. Her sacrifice, her pain and her fervent conviction made her an immortal figure, a national heroine whose light never fades in the collective memory of France and Europe.
Canonized as a saint more than 500 years later, venerated as the patron saint of France, an eternal flame that guides future generations towards the light of freedom and hope.
Joan's bravery on the battlefield and her refusal to conform to the traditional roles of her time remind us that women have always played a vital role in shaping history, challenging norms and blazing new trails for future generations. Her example inspires us to speak out, lead with determination and continue to fight for equality and justice.
