Almete helmet and gorget 'Avant' -1440

One of the curiosities that few people know about the so-called Avant armour (known as such because it has this word engraved on the edges) is that it did not originally have the barbute with which it is normally shown in the exhibition. The helmet that originally completed the set was sold separately by the family to which it belonged. Today it is known that these two pieces are from a single set and no self-respecting reenactor should complete his "Avant" set without this magnificent helmet.

The cap was widely used in Italy, France, England and Spain, the first known being from Milan and dating back to 1420. Its use was extended until the 16th century and variants of it can even still be seen as late as 1620.

The typical helmet consists of four pieces; a bald cap, usually reinforced at the forehead, two cheek-shaped side pieces that are attached to it with hinges and a usually pointed visor. The cheek pieces were usually fastened using a pin-shaped closure system secured by a hook, or metal wire if the knight did not want it to open in case of a fight. As it was done by closing over the figure of the wearer and drawing the shape of the neck and chin, it was necessary to develop a mechanical opening and closing system that opened from the sides, which is why these helmets have this type of opening that makes them easy to put on and take off.

You must send the item(s) to us using your own means. Freight collect shipments will not be accepted.

The Customer has the right to withdraw from the order within 14 calendar days of receipt. Outside of this period, revocations will not be accepted for orders, nor for orders for the supply of goods made according to the Customer's specifications or clearly personalized, or that, by their nature, cannot be returned or may deteriorate or expire quickly, etc., that have been unsealed and/or used by the Customer. The Customer must notify THE ENTITY of their withdrawal through the Withdrawal Form (Link to the Document) by email, post, or fax, within this 14-day period. The cost of return shipping will be borne by the Customer. The products must be in the same condition as received, with the original packaging, and must not have been used. The refund will be issued using the same payment method used by the Customer .
