FUNCTIONAL ROMAN SHIELDS
Roman shields were made from wood with layers glued together to form the curved shape. In addition, additional strips of wood were glued to the back to give the shield extra strength. It was then covered with leather and a linen sheet was added to the front. Finally, they were painted on the front. The most famous designs were the eagle wings and the lightning bolt.
