The medieval man at arms was a brave and loyal fighter filled with bellicose heroism who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. A veteran of countless battles, he was often the first to leap into battle. In honor of these rugged and devoted roving soldiers, Cold Steel® created the Man at Arms collection of weapons.
Compared to premium versions from Cold Steels®, these combat-ready weapons lack the usual silver-polished steel elements, but in terms of quality and performance, MAA series products come close to matching the others. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty.

The Spontoon is basically a slightly smaller polearm, similar to a winged lance . During the colonial wars in America, it was often used as a rifle or musket -replacement and was issued in significant numbers to troops on both sides in every conflict from the French and Indian Wars (1754-1763) to the War of 1812. However, it was not only used as a weapon, but was also used as a rank insignia for officers and non-commissioned officers. Cold Steels® President Lynn C. Thompson's fascination with spontoon dates back to Tim Willock's novel Die Blutnacht (Original title: The Twelve Children of Paris ), which she read three times. And so the idea of creating her own Cold Steel® model based on historical models arose.
The Cold Steels® American Spontoon blade is approximately 27cm long, 4mm thick and is fitted with a wing approximately 9cm long on both sides. Although primarily designed as thrusting weapons, Spontoons were also powerful slashing weapons. With the sharp wings it was also possible to catch and hold the enemy weapon or the enemy themselves. This Spontoon has a shaft mount with 3 decorative rings and a sturdy ash wood shaft. It is perfect for any American colonial era reenactor and in itself is simply a terrifying weapon.
