September 4, 2025 will mark a historic moment for Metroidvania fans: Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be released on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2, in addition to being available from launch on Xbox Game Pass.
Developed by Australian studio Team Cherry, this long-awaited sequel has become one of the most anticipated video games of the last decade.

Release date and platforms
Officially confirmed by Team Cherry, Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming out on September 4, 2025.
Originally intended as a DLC for the base title Hollow Knight, this game grew in scale to become a standalone work.
The initial announcement was made in 2019 and has since gone through multiple delays and content expansions.
Now available on all major consoles and PC, gamer excitement is at an all-time high.
Plus, the fact that it's available on digital stores like Steam, the Epic Games Store, and others ensures that anyone can easily get it.
Hornet, the protagonist
In this sequel, the player will control Hornet, the agile hunter we met in the original game.
Captured and taken to an unknown kingdom called Pharloom, Hornet must navigate her way through mysteries, traps, and enemies to ascend to the top of the citadel.
Silksong promises over two hundred unique enemies, over 40 bosses, a more complex quest system, and a deeper story that will reveal secrets about Hornet's lineage and connection to Hallownest.

Gameplay and design updates
Hollow Knight: Silksong not only expands the universe, but also introduces new mechanics.
Hornet features faster movement, diagonal attacks, strategic dashes, and acrobatic abilities that radically change combat.
The game features mossy grottos, golden cities, misty wastelands, and a narrative that delves into Hornet's origins.
Additionally, there will be a Steel Soul mode for more experienced players, and an arsenal of weapons and tools to customize the experience.
New features include crafting systems, resource gathering, and a more dynamic map that rewards exploration.
Soundtrack and atmosphere
Composer Christopher Larkin returns with an orchestral score featuring over 30 themes, designed to immerse the player in the melancholic and epic tone of the world of Pharloom.
Music promises to be a key element, with themes for each area and battles against legendary bosses. The soundtrack will be one of the pillars that brings each stage to life, from the echoes of the underground to the luminous heights of the citadel.
Why is it so anticipated?
The playable demo at Gamescom 2025 made it clear that Silksong is harder, faster, and deeper than the original.
Players noticed a change in Hornet's control, making it more fluid and aggressive, with a combat style reminiscent of a nimble chess bishop. This adds a fresh twist to an already acclaimed formula and offers new strategies for both veterans and newcomers.
Furthermore, the confirmation that the game is now available for pre-order on multiple platforms, along with the release of official trailers and gameplay, has boosted expectations to record levels.
