This is the oldest model of the Weisenau type helmet, spanning over 200 years of development up to the 'Niedermá¶rmter'.
This model has shaped our image of the Roman legionary.

This helmet has simple but distinct brow ridges, which stabilized the construction and were typical of Gallic models during the Roman Empire.
There are openings for the ears, although without the protective fins developed in later models.

The forehead support is particularly massive and makes an observer of the original assume that this helmet model constantly slides into the user's field of vision.

Deepeekas' detailed reproduction of this find from Nijmegen (Netherlands) shows that the helmet is well covered and wearable despite the strong brow support.

Age determination: from the 1st century BC to the first half of the 1st century AD.
The original was found with pottery dated during the reign of Emperor Augustus.
