History:
The sabre is a bladed weapon characterized by a curved, single-edged blade. It originated in the eastern Mediterranean region during the Middle Ages and spread to Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Sabres were used by cavalry, infantry, and the navy for centuries.
Types of saber:
- Cavalry Sabre: Designed for cutting and thrusting from the saddle. Curved, robust blade with a sharp point.
- Infantry Sabre: Lighter than the cavalry sword, with a shorter, curved blade. It is used for cutting and rapier.
- Boarding Sabre: Used by the Navy for hand-to-hand combat on ships. Broad, robust blade for cutting and smashing.
- Fencing sabre: Flexible and lightweight blade for training and competition.
Manufacturing:
Sabres are traditionally made from carbon steel or stainless steel. The blade is forged, tempered and sharpened. The hilt can be made from wood, metal or plastic.
