John Lee Hannya Functional Katana

The John Lee Hannya functional katana is a masterpiece of Asian craftsmanship, hand forged from 1095 carbon steel. The razor-sharp blades have been differentially hardened, following a traditional process involving the application of clay and resulting in an original Hamon line. The Ha has a hardness of 60 HRC while the Mune has a hardness of 40 HRC.

The wooden grips (tsuka) are completed with the original ray skin (Same), while the black cotton wrapping grip (Tsuka-Ito) is applied following ancient artisan techniques. In addition, two Menukis have been placed on the grips, and the handle-ends are particularly long and are fixed to the grip with 2 bamboo pins (mekugi).

The scabbards (Saya) are made of wood and the manufacturing has been carried out following historical examples, which guarantees the authenticity and quality of the piece. This katana has complex applications decorated with the Hannya mask, originating from the Japanese Noh theatre and representing a woman transformed into a demon due to her rage and jealousy.

The length of the Tsuba blade is approximately 75 cm, while the total length without sheath is around 108 cm. The hilt measures about 32 cm and the weight without scabbard is approximately 1200g. In addition, this sword will be delivered with a seal guaranteeing its originality and will be carefully wrapped in a cloth bag before being placed in a high-quality collector's box.
