In Kimetsu no Yaiba , the fates of Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado take a crucial turn thanks to Giyu Tomioka, the Water Pillar, who decided to protect them despite the strict rules of the Demon Slayer Corps. But have you ever wondered what would have happened if another Pillar had been in their place? Would their story have been just as hopeful or would it have ended in tragedy? Below, we explore some alternative scenarios that could have changed everything. What would have become of them if they had been found by…? Shinobu Kocho, Insect Pillar Shinobu, with her sweet voice and constant smile, hides a deep resentment toward demons. Although her approach is pragmatic and scientific, her hatred could have been a major obstacle for Tanjiro and Nezuko. Initially, Shinobu would likely have been curious about Nezuko as a unique phenomenon: a demon who doesn't attack humans. However, that curiosity might have led her to seek to study her rather than protect her. Her more calculating and less emotional approach could have created tension with Tanjiro. In a positive scenario, Shinobu could have used her ingenuity to prove Nezuko's innocence to the rest of the Corps, as well as her scientific value. But in a worst-case scenario, she could have attempted to poison her "for the greater good," as part of her experiments. From this perspective, the relationship between Tanjiro and Shinobu would have been much more conflicted, and Nezuko's fate could have been in danger from the beginning. Kyojuro Rengoku, Pillar of Flame With his energy and passionate nature, Rengoku could have been a father figure to Tanjiro and Nezuko from the start. His motto of protecting the innocent and his strong sense of duty make him a Pillar who would likely have defended the Kamado siblings. Rengoku might have seen Tanjiro and Nezuko as a case worthy of exception. His willingness to protect them would have been evident, though he might have faced difficulties convincing the Corps' superiors. It is also likely that Rengoku took on the role of mentor, helping Tanjiro improve his swordsmanship and offering emotional support. In this way, the plot could have taken a direction more focused on Rengoku's ideals of justice and compassion, with a faster development of Tanjiro as a hunter. Mitsuri Kanroji, Pillar of Love With her compassionate heart and ability to empathize, Mitsuri would have been a natural ally for Tanjiro and Nezuko. She would likely have felt tenderness toward Nezuko and admiration for Tanjiro's determination to protect her. Her instinct would have been to protect them from the beginning. And while she would have been a strong defender, her less assertive nature might have hampered her ability to influence the decisions of her superiors. With Mitsuri, the story could have focused more on the importance of empathy and emotions, albeit with greater challenges in gaining the Corps' support. Muichiro Tokito, Pillar of Mist Muichiro's initial indifference to others could have made this encounter very unpredictable. At his most distant, Muichiro would likely have ignored Tanjiro and Nezuko or considered them irrelevant. So perhaps the initial approach could have been initiated by them. As Muichiro recalled his own tragic past, he might have begun to empathize with Tanjiro's struggle to protect his only family. His more meaningful support might have come later, with a greater focus on the deep emotional impact, reinforcing the themes of memory and redemption. Sanemi Shinazugawa, Pillar of the Wind Sanemi, known for his deep hatred of demons, would have represented one of the greatest challenges for Tanjiro and Nezuko. His aggressiveness and distrust could have turned the encounter into a deadly showdown. He would likely have tried to kill Nezuko on the spot, without giving any room for explanations, which would have forced Tanjiro to confront him to protect his sister. Had Nezuko managed to demonstrate her self-control, Sanemi might have reconsidered his position, though this would have taken time and a great deal of evidence. Perhaps that self-control would have manifested itself in protecting Tanjiro, which would have sown doubt in Sanemi. In this case, her relationship with Tanjiro would have been tense and violent, with a darker focus and filled with internal conflicts within the Corps. Additionally, it could have led to a greater focus on Nezuko and her own development, proving her innocence and demonstrating her worth beyond her status as a demon. There are hundreds of possible situations and “universes” Each Pillar has a unique personality that would have given a different spin to Tanjiro and Nezuko's story. From Shinobu's pragmatic sweetness to Rengoku's passionate justice to Sanemi's aggressiveness, these alternatives highlight the richness of Kimetsu no Yaiba 's world. Along his journey, he encounters allies who not only share his mission, but also bring their own unique stories, emotions, and abilities. In this article, I invite you to learn about Tanjiro's main companions. Each of them has dreams, virtues, and flaws that make them unforgettable. Tanjiro Kamado: Unbreakable Determination (Image of the Tanjiro Maximatic Figure ) Much more than the protagonist of the story; he is the heart of Kimetsu no Yaiba . The eldest son of a coal merchant, Tanjiro loses his entire family in a demon attack, except for his younger sister, Nezuko, who, contaminated by them, transforms into one of these creatures. This tragic event drives him to become a demon hunter with two clear goals: find a cure for Nezuko and avenge his family. After undergoing rigorous training with Sakonji Urokodaki, Tanjiro masters the "Water Breathing" technique, but later perfects the "Dance of the Fire God," an ancient technique from his family based on the "Sun Breathing." This makes him a formidable adversary for demons, but what truly sets him apart is his ability to empathize even with his enemies, displaying a kindness rarely seen in a world as cruel as the one he inhabits. Nezuko Kamado: The Light in the Darkness (Image of the Sh Figuarts Figure of Nezuko ) It's impossible to talk about Tanjiro without mentioning his younger sister, Nezuko, the emotional driving force of his journey. During the tragedy that destroyed her family, she was transformed into a demon by Muzan Kibutsuji, but her bond with Tanjiro sets her apart from the rest. Nezuko retains some of her humanity, showing an unwavering affection for her brother while fighting her demonic instincts, refusing to attack humans. To control her demonic impulses, she wears a bamboo muzzle placed by the Water Pillar, Giyū Tomioka, and travels in a wooden box that Tanjiro carries on his back during his adventures. Although she cannot speak, her expressive expressions and gestures make her a character that is easy to grow fond of. One of the things that most attracts attention about Nezuko is her peculiar ability to alter her size, from adopting a childlike form to becoming gigantic in combat. On the other hand, her abilities as a demon, such as accelerated regeneration, superhuman strength, and her blood technique "Explosive Blood," make her a crucial ally in battles against other demons. Her joint quest with Tanjiro to regain her humanity makes her one of the most important and beloved characters in the series. Zenitsu Agatsuma: The Power of Fear (Image of Zenitsu's Figure, Grandista ) At first glance, Zenitsu might seem like a cowardly character, but there's much more to him than his nervous demeanor suggests. He could also be considered one of Tanjiro's companions, adding the most humor to his adventures. Despite appearing to be afraid of facing danger, he possesses an impressive ability: the "Lightning Breathing" style. Although he has only mastered its First Form, it is so devastating that it makes him a surprisingly effective fighter. While it is his cowardice that makes him most human, as the story progresses, his courage emerges in the most critical moments, proving that true strength is not always about the absence of fear, but about facing it. Paradoxically, his true potential is only revealed when he faints, at which point his body acts automatically, displaying a technical mastery that few hunters possess. He is a highly developed character, whose evolution throughout the series, driven by his loyalty to Tanjiro and his love for Nezuko, transforms him into an admirable character. Inosuke Hashibira: The Wild Force of Nature (Image of Inosuke's Vibration Stars Figure ) If there's one character who stands out for his wild, overflowing energy, it's Inosuke. Raised by wild boars, Inosuke Hashibira has a deep connection with nature and an innate fighting ability, with a unique style, "Beast Breath," that he created and reflects his fierce and adaptable background. With his boar mask and seemingly aggressive attitude, Inosuke appears to be a savage warrior, but beneath that facade lies a complex personality. Although at first she sees Tanjiro as a rival, their relationship soon evolves into a sincere friendship, both with him and Zenitsu, forming a dynamic team full of unforgettable moments. His physical abilities, such as his flexibility and ability to dislocate his joints at will, make him a great combatant. He also possesses a childlike curiosity that contrasts with his outward toughness, resulting in both comical and heartwarming moments. A Journey of Growth and Friendship Each of these characters brings something unique to the story of Kimetsu no Yaiba . From Tanjiro's unwavering kindness to Nezuko's quiet strength, Zenitsu's unexpected bravery, and Inosuke's intensity, they all embody values like perseverance, empathy, and teamwork. An introduction to the world of the Night Watch
In Japan, there is an ancient legend that speaks of demonic creatures that attack people at night, devouring them. Koyoharu Gotoge's work, Kimetsu no Yaiba ( Guardians of the Night ), whose publication began in 2016, uses this legend as a source of inspiration and presents us with a supernatural world set in the 20th century, during the Taisho era (the period in which the emperor of the same name ruled). The story takes us to a dark Japan, dominated by the fear of being devoured by these demons. In response, various heroes rise up to fight and defeat them, trying to restore hope to humanity. (Image of Kamado Brother and Sister Precious Gem Figure ) The plot follows Tanjiro Kamado, who becomes a demon hunter after his family is massacred by the creatures. His sister, Nezuko, is the only survivor, but she was injured and contaminated with demon blood, which threatens to transform her completely into one. Tanjiro then joins a demon slayer organization that operates outside of government regulations and protection. With this goal in mind, he begins his training to avenge his family and seek a cure for Nezuko, whom he wishes to protect above all else. From there, an action-packed, dangerous adventure begins, accompanied by a wide cast of diverse and unique characters, each with their own story, depth, and characteristics that have won over fans around the world. About hunters and demons In this world, both hunters and demons possess iconic weapons, which has given rise to numerous replicas and a wide variety of merchandise related to them as well as the characters. Hunter weapons are specially designed to destroy demons and feature unique characteristics that adapt to each wielder. These Nichirin swords acquire a distinctive color when wielded by their owner, reflecting the wielder's technique, personality, and character. For example, the protagonist's sword is black, an extremely rare occurrence among hunters. ( Funko Pop image, Tanjiro vs Rui ) Both groups have elites made up of the most powerful and deserving individuals: The Nine Pillars (Hashira): These are the strongest demon hunters, dedicated to protecting humanity. This group, led by Kagaya Ubuyashiki, requires its members to have defeated at least 50 demons or one of the members of the 12 Demon Moons. Interestingly, Tanjiro's teacher, Urokodaki, was one of these Pillars. The 12 Demon Moons (12 Kizuki): These demons serve under Muzan Kibutsuji and bear a distinctive mark on one of their eyes. This group is divided into the Lower Moons, which includes the six weakest, and the Upper Moons, which includes the six most powerful. The demons of Kimetsu no Yaiba The legend of the “night demons” can evoke the well-known vampires, and perhaps it is no coincidence that there are several similarities between these creatures and the demons presented to us in Kimetsu no Yaiba . Its origin With the exception of Muzan, who was born as a result of a medicine created from the Blue Spider Lily, most demons are humans who have transformed by being contaminated by the blood of other powerful demons. This process, while effective in some cases, is not always successful, as not all humans manage to survive the transformation. Features and weaknesses Humans who become demons lose all their memories of being demons, becoming dominated by a primal instinct that drives them to feed on human flesh and blood. This conversion grants them supernatural abilities and a longevity close to immortality. Despite maintaining a human appearance, they usually have pale skin and feline eyes, accompanied by distinctive features such as horns or pointy ears. As they consume humans, their power and intellect increase, making them more cunning and dangerous. Many of them even hide among humans, taking advantage of their appearance to go unnoticed and avoid being hunted. Although extremely strong, demons have specific weaknesses that they share, these being: sunlight , which can be fatal to them; the scent of wisteria flowers ; and Nichirin weapons: Hunter swords, forged specifically to eliminate them. Finally, the demons are linked to the progenitor Muzan Kibutsuji, who has the ability to read their thoughts, see through their eyes, locate them, and, if necessary, destroy them from a distance. However, this connection can be broken if a demon possesses a will strong enough to resist his control. At least for most vampire fans, many of these characteristics of the demons in Kimetsu no Yaiba will sound familiar, right? Still, this doesn't in any way affect the depth of the plot or the complexity with which this fascinating world has been built. Rather, these similarities add an interesting twist to the way they are presented, which, along with their originality, has managed to captivate fans around the world.
