The Early Medieval Tinker Sword with Sharp Blade is one of the latest releases in Michael 'Tinker' Pearce's sword series, manufactured by the Hanwei brand. Designed with authenticity and functionality in mind, this 5160 steel sword is excellent in performance and handling. It offers both a sharp and dull version depending on the user's needs.

The 5160 spring steel used in the manufacture of this sword has been very carefully heat treated by hot bath curing (marquenching in English). This results in an excellent interplay of strength and flexibility at a Rockwell hardness of 50-52 HRC. This allows the sharp blades to have greater edge strength, while the blunt models prevent burr formation and ensure safety-related flexibility of the tip.

One of the key aspects of Tinker's design is that the blades are interchangeable. The seven sword series have replacement blades available for each sword type with the exception of the Early Viking Sword. You will also be given the option to purchase a full sword plus a spare blade. Additionally, all longswords, bastard swords, and early medieval swords have Tinker's special mounting system with hex nuts, allowing for easy blade changing with an Allen key and ensuring the handle remains firmly attached.

This particular sword is of the Early Medieval Sword type (Oakeshott Type X11). Offered in both sharp and dull versions, both are identical in handling. The sharp version is fitted with a groove that runs over about a third of the blade with a diamond-shaped cross section flattened towards the tip. The blunt version, on the other hand, has a wide, flat groove that is designed to relocate weight towards the edges, providing safety without affecting feel. The sword is fitted with a beautiful and functional cruciform handle and is provided with a leather-wrapped scabbard.
