    Hollow Knight: Silksong

September 4, 2025, will mark a historic moment for Metroidvania lovers: Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be released on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and the new Switch 2, in addition to being available from launch on Xbox Game Pass.

Developed by Australian studio Team Cherry, this long-awaited sequel has become one of the most anticipated video games of the last decade.

    Release date and platforms

Officially confirmed by Team Cherry, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released on September 4, 2025.

Originally conceived as DLC for the base game Hollow Knight, this game grew in scale to become a standalone title.

The initial announcement was made in 2019 and since then has undergone multiple delays and content expansions.

Now, as it will be available on all major consoles and PC, player excitement is at an all-time high.
In addition, the fact that it will be released on digital stores, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, and others, ensures that anyone can easily get it.

    Hornet, the protagonist

In this sequel, the player will control Hornet, the agile huntress we already met in the original game.

Captured and taken to an unknown kingdom called Pharloom, Hornet must make her way through mysteries, traps, and enemies to ascend to the top of the citadel.

Silksong promises more than two hundred unique enemies, more than 40 bosses, a more complex quest system, and a deeper story that will reveal secrets about Hornet's lineage and her connection to Hallownest.

    Gameplay and design innovations

Hollow Knight: Silksong not only expands the universe but also introduces new mechanics.

Hornet features faster movements, diagonal attacks, strategic dashes, and acrobatic abilities that radically change combat.

The game offers moss-covered grottoes, golden cities, misty wastelands, and a narrative that delves into Hornet's origins.

In addition, there will be a Steel Soul mode for expert players, and an arsenal of weapons and tools to customize the experience.

Among the novelties are crafting systems, resource gathering, and a more dynamic map that will reward exploration.

    Soundtrack and atmosphere

Composer Christopher Larkin returns with an orchestral score that includes more than 30 tracks, designed to immerse the player in the melancholic and epic tone of the world of Pharloom.

The music promises to be a key element, with themes for each area and battles against legendary bosses. The soundscape will be one of the pillars to bring each scenario to life, from the underground echoes to the luminous heights of the citadel.

    Why it's so anticipated

The playable demo at Gamescom 2025 made it clear that Silksong is more difficult, faster, and deeper than the original.

Players noted a change in Hornet's control, more floating and aggressive, with a combat style reminiscent of an agile chess bishop. This adds freshness to an already acclaimed formula and offers new strategies for veterans and newcomers alike.

In addition, the confirmation that the game can now be pre-ordered on various platforms, along with the release of official trailers and gameplay, has sent expectations soaring to record levels.
